Puppy Intermediate (3–11 months; permission required)

For those who have graduated a Puppy Beginner course from PHS/SPCA or another training facility that focuses on positive reinforcement methods.  Students work on building upon basic commands.  You and your puppy will learn how to heel, long down-stays, sit & down at a distance, come with distractions, voice control, and more tricks!  You will also continue people and dog socialization through supervised play time.

* Monday, April 28th 6:15pm-7:15pm (no class on 5/26)

Puppy Ghostbusters (2-6 months)

After taking this class, your puppy will fear nothing! Proper socialization is just as crucial for your pup as basic obedience. In this socialization/training course, puppies are exposed to different life situations and novel objects from vacuum cleaners, doorways, strollers, muzzles, canes to even kids, the elderly and maybe a man in uniform. Of course, we’ll also offer supervised play time and random sounds played on a CD. The course is a mini-session where each day the trainer will cover ways to socialize and show owners how proper introduction paired with positive experiences lead to well-rounded, confident adult dogs.

Puppy Playgroup (2-6 months)
A class for pups under 6 months who very much need socialization to build a good foundation for the future. Class provides off-leash, supervised playtime to teach puppies how to play with other dogs. Pups need not, but can be enrolled in either Puppy Preschool or Puppy Kindergarten at the same time as this class.

Class is every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month from 6:15-7:15

Drop-ins welcome, but please arrive 10 minutes early to register

Puppy Consultation
Got a new puppy?  Need some help with destructive chewing, potty training, interaction with kids/animals, or any house manner issues?  PHS/SPCA offers Puppy Consultations where you and your new puppy can meet with a behavior trainer at our shelter for a private, one-on-one behavior consultation. Our experts can help you work through all issues that occur during puppyhood. The first few months are crucial for your puppy when it comes to proper learning and socialization with people and other animals. If you’re signing up for PHS Obedience class, tack on a behavior consultation by purchasing a Behavior & Training package which offers discounted rates. Because PHS/SPCA is a non-profit, our rates are significantly less expensive than other behavior consultation businesses. But, we're every bit as good! The initial 1 Hour consultation is $70; 30-minute follow-ups are $40. Consultations regarding issues involving reactivity or aggression are $90, and 30-minute follow-ups are $50. To schedule an appointment, please call 650/340-7022, ext. 667 or email letting us know your dog's information (name, breed, gender, and age) and the issue(s) you want addressed. Get a head start on building a great relationship with your puppy!
