About the Charity
Founded by Vanessa Getty, San Francisco Bay Humane Friends (SFBHF), an auxiliary of the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA, provides vital funding and support for humane spay/neuter and general pet healthcare programs that address pet overpopulation, primarily in lower income communities throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

SFBHF’s primary effort has been to fund a free, spay/neuter mobile clinic with a state of the art surgical suite –the only such program in the Bay Area. This mobile clinic offers a convenient means for families with limited financial resources to receive important basic healthcare for their pets.
The Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA, with SFBHF’s generous support, has altered more than 5,000 pets since the mobile clinic program’s inception in 2006…the goal is to continue to spay/neuter more than 1000 animals every year…
Pet overpopulation results in hundreds of thousands of unwanted pets surrendered to shelters across the country each year. SFBHF’s efforts seek to spay/neuter pets in order to limit overpopulation, and help reduce the number of pets in shelters –limiting the need to euthanize these pets due to the budgetary and space constraints shelters face.
